Phil Miller - Artistic Producing Director

Phil Miller became the first Artistic Producing Director of the Covina Center for the Performing Arts in July 2008, prior to that Miller was the CCPA Education Director. He created and implemented the new Young Performers Institute, along with the CCPA’s Open Door Performance Program, the Teacher Appreciation Series, the Educational Internship Program and the Dr. Forest and Mariam Tennant Arts Educator of the Year Award. Previously he served on the Artistic Board for the Covina Valley Playhouse (2000-2005) and the Artistic Board for StageARTS Repertory (2005-2008).

In the inaugural 2008 season at the Covina Center for Performing Arts, he technically directed the Gala Opening Celebration for the Arts and directed the critically acclaimed, sold out production of Seussical: The Musical. Favorite directing credits include Elegies: A Song Cycle (Los Angeles Regional Premiere), With Their Eyes: The View From A High School at Ground Zero (Los Angeles Regional Premiere), Neil Simon’s The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Merrily We Roll Along, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged, The Exonerated, Steel Magnolias, The Music Man, Annie, Guys and Dolls, Little Shops of Horrors, and Bye Bye Birdie.

In addition to his work at Covina, he is a sought after acting teacher, teaching both privately and publicly. He currently teaches full time for the Southeast Regional Occupational Program courses in Theatre and Arts Management and holds an ROP teaching credential in Performing Arts. A recognized performing arts consultant has consulted for public school districts, theatres and private organizations in curriculum development, fundraising, program development and corporate giving. In 2003, Miller was recognized with Accommodations from both the City of La Puente (Mayor Lou Perez) and the State of California (Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger) for his work in promoting and developing the Performing Arts at Fairgrove Academy, a Bravo Award winning K-8 Performing Arts Magnet School. In 2009, Miller will be directing the “Surprise Broadway Blockbuster” for the Covina Center for the Performing Arts. He is also a Proud Member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
