"Sweet Mama Stringbean"  is an original two act musical play based on the life of legendary 1920's  black entertainer Ethel Waters, performed by ValLimar Jansen, who co-wrote the show with director, William Slout.

Ethel Waters was the first black woman to sing on the radio, to headline at the Palace Theatre in New York, and to appear in a major Broadway play.  She was nominated for two Academy Awards. The show originated under the title "Ethel"  as a graduate degree project by the performer and
was the first one woman show to be performed and honored at Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

ValLimar Jansen has recieved critical acclaim performing with her musical director/pianist husband Frank Jansen. She toured with the Broadway cast of "Raisin," has performed as Ethel Waters in European tours, and is a regular in Las Vegas.  The show features songs originated by Waters, such as 'Suppertime,' 'Am I Blue?,' and  'Stormy Weather', which have become standards in the great American songbook.
